Bananas Foster French Toast

It's giving decadent, sensational, sinful greatness! This french toast recipe features fluffy brioche, notes of cinnamon, and the main attraction of it all...caramelized bananas! While the dark rum does give it that bananas foster PUNCH, it can be made non-boozy. This french toast pairs perfectly with chopped walnuts and for my extra sinful foodies, pair it with whipped cream. I know y'all are going to love this recipe, foodies. Happy cooking!

Yield: 4-6 servings

Ingredients

French Toast

  • 8-12 slices brioche

  • 3 egg yolks

  • 1 c half and half, almond milk, or coconut milk

  • ⅛ c granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • Pinch of nutmeg

  • Butter

  • Whipped cream (for serving)

  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Bananas Foster

  • 4 ripe bananas

  • ½ stick salted butter

  • ½ c dark brown sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ c dark rum

  • Chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions


French Toast:

  1. Preheat Oven- Begin by preheating oven to the lowest setting (200-250° F).

  2. Mix- Next, in a shallow dish whisk egg yolks, half and half, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. 

  3. Melt Butter- Place pan on medium-low heat and melt 1 tbsp of butter. 

  4. Dip and Cook- Quickly dip 2 slices of bread at a time into mixture, then transfer to pan. Cook for about 3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Once toast is cooked, transfer to baking sheet and place in oven until serving. Repeat until all slices are cooked.

  5. Serve- Serve with bananas foster topping, syrup, and whipped cream. Voila!

Bananas Foster:

  1. Slice Bananas- Cut bananas on the bias  (diagonally into ½ inch thick slices).

  2. Melt Butter- Place pan on medium heat and melt butter.

  3. Cook Bananas- Once butter is melted, stir in sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Once the mixture is thoroughly combined, add banana slices. Cook for about 3 minutes until golden brown. Next, flip bananas and cook for another minute. 

  4. Add Rum- Next, add rum and stir the mixture. Once bananas are caramelized, remove from heat and serve over french toast.
